The event, held between October 2–5 this year and highlighting the 100th anniversary of modern planetariums, was officially included in the International Astronomical Union’s (IAU) Global Outreach Event calendar. In this way, the Mercan 100th Year Climate and Environmental Science Center gained international visibility by taking its place among astronomy events promoted worldwide.
Organized by the IAU’s Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO) — which operates under the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) — the global outreach activities aim to promote astronomy to the public, advance education, strengthen dissemination, and foster international collaboration across nations.
At the modern Mercan Planetarium, located within the Mercan 100th Year Climate and Environmental Science Center, visitors explored the unique features that make Earth habitable. Through visually rich simulations, the atmosphere, water cycle, magnetic field, and climate systems were presented in an engaging way, offering participants a scientific yet entertaining experience. The planetarium shows illustrated the natural cycles that sustain life on Earth through striking visuals.
Children, youth, and families attending the event not only experienced science firsthand but also became part of a global celebration shared across the world.
